Mayegun Sunday Olusegun Babanumi has described the continued propagation of a consensus candidate in Ibadan North West and Ibadan South West Federal Constituency as a “propagandist illusion” being peddled by Hon. Akin Fagbemi.
Reacting to ongoing rumours within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Babanumi stated that unity and cohesion of the party can only be sustained if individuals like Akin Fagbemi desist from employing “cheap propaganda to alter standing rules and regulations of the party.”
He condemned what he called the “whipping up of past sentiment” by Fagbemi, noting that after being compensated with a “juicy board appointment for over 6 years,” such moves are unfair and amount to a “sheer display of a spirit of entitlement at the detriment of other party faithfuls.”
Babanumi emphasised that he has twice been asked by the party to step down for other aspirants without being obliged any compensatory position. “Despite this sacrifice, I have remained loyal,” he said.
He described Fagbemi’s preemptive measures against the Screening Committee as “an act of political brigandage capable of undermining the integrity of committee members before other party faithfuls.”
The aspirant called on party leaders not to allow any candidate’s act of “shortchanging decisions to rubbish the prevailing good works of Gov. Seyi Makinde in Oyo State.”
“Fairness and justice properly applied is the best antidote against internal disunity in any organisation,” Babanumi stated.
Reaffirming his loyalty, he added: “I have never decamped or abandoned the PDP since its existence in Oyo State. I remain steadfast with Gov. Makinde’s leadership, and will continue irrespective of any acrimonious attempts by any individual to portray undeserving success.”
