In a move that has ended months of political speculation across Oyo State, Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde has officially announced his preferred successor to take over the reins of governance in 2027.
The Governor, speaking earlier today at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, named the former Commissioner for Finance in the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration as his sole candidate to succeed him and continue the administration of Oyo State.

According to Governor Makinde, the decision was reached after wide consultations with party leaders, stakeholders, and the people of Oyo State, with emphasis on competence, experience, and continuity of the Omituntun development agenda.
“The time has come for us to be clear and decisive about the future of Oyo State. After careful consideration, I present to you the man I believe has the capacity, character, and commitment to build on the foundation we have laid,” Makinde stated.
The announcement puts to rest the long-awaited succession question that has dominated political conversations in the state since the Governor’s second term began.
Party faithful and political observers are already describing the development as a strategic move to ensure stability and a seamless transition of power in 2027.
More details on the official unveiling and campaign direction are expected in the coming days.
