A coalition of concerned citizens within Lagelu State Constituency, operating under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has openly rejected the renewed ambition of Hon. Akintunde Emmanuel Olajide (AKT) to seek another term in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The group, in a statement issued to journalists, described the move as inconsistent with the principles of fairness, equity, and democratic rotation. They maintained that the constituency seat is a shared mandate that should allow for wider participation, rather than being retained by a single individual over multiple terms.
Raising concerns over accountability, the citizens challenged Hon. Olajide to present a detailed report of his stewardship, particularly his performance over the past year. They emphasized that transparency and accountability are essential pillars of effective governance, noting that any aspirant seeking re-election must be ready to subject their record to public evaluation.
The group further called on the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, to take a firm stance against what they described as an emerging third-term agenda. According to them, permitting such a move could erode internal democracy within the PDP and set an unhealthy political precedent.
In addition, they urged party leaders, stakeholders, and members across Lagelu Local Government to resist any attempt to impose a third-term candidacy. They stressed the importance of inclusiveness, fairness, and equal opportunity within the party framework.
“The Lagelu State Constituency seat belongs to the people, not any single individual. It must continue to reflect justice, equity, and balanced representation,” the statement concluded.
The situation is likely to intensify political engagements within the constituency, as party stakeholders continue to deliberate on issues of representation, accountability, and internal democracy ahead of the forthcoming electoral cycle.
